OK: here is WHAT this Image Anti Ransom Forum is doing here.

In the world's dumbest business idea since "New Coke", www.Photobucket.com in July 2017 started demanding $US399pa ($A525) for you to use their service to add, or have visible your old images, here, or on other boards. They added a black Ransom icon to your images on global boards, or ebay etc. Some members have used www.IMGUR.com for years, and have had no issues with that. If you have a thread you had photobucket images in, and want to re-populate it, we will move it here - a forum you can edit for MORE than an hour - forever actually, when given Moderator permissions, and you can add in yours and other's pix via IMGUR links etc. Members have saved 100,000 images so far - VOLUNTEER to assist please!

Thanks Brummie all done and moved back home.

Also thanks to Norvic and Ubobo for alerting me to the missed images. They don't show on my screen as I have the plugin. Serves me right for repairing while the Comm Games are on the tv.

Returned for you Dave.

I think. Norvic could the images where you could only see the "Dial of Death" is that he downloaded the "patch" that allows the blocked Photobucket images to be viewed.

I find that patch gets in the way of repairing images.

Yes perhaps Brad. Interestingly all of the images in that thread were hosted on PB yet I could see about 4 or 5 of them and 8 were the Dial of Death !!

Anyway, they are all now hosted on IMGUR - Hooray

Thanks for MODs very prompt assistance in getting this moved in and out.

As I said, I could see all the images. Perhaps I am blessed. Certainly it's one of the reasons why I haven't got involved in repairing the threads: I don't see any dial of death. Another reason is that there are a handful of people here who seem to go through these threads like a knife through butter! They deserve our undying thanks and support!

In view of the most recent message from Photobucket (see http://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=77822&p=5496697#p5496697 it seems that image replacement is now finished. Is this so?

I ask because my method of identifying lost images was to look for the 'dial of death' and it appears that all of those have now disappeared.

If the new regime does decide to completely pull the plug after a period then I guess we will have to revisit the exercise at that time. I say that because there may still be many images which have not been replaced. I would think that I have replaced thousands for members like nethryk and tonymacg but there are probably lots still not done. On the other hand I guess most of those who have clung on would be quite willing to pay the small fee now required to ensure third party rights.

Kevin

I have posed that question to CMJ.

Until officially advised to the contrary carry on regardless.

Perhaps I did not make my point clear.

Carry on with what? How do you know whether a thread needs fixing if there are no 'black images' to indicate there is a problem?

Even before the recent decision by Photobucket, some pictures hosted there continued to be seen. So I open for editing ALL posts with pictures to check whether they are imgur, stampboard (all remain) or photobucket or another host pics (to be replaced)

Same here.

I have the patch so all images appear regardless. I just check all images and repair as necessary.

Speaking personally, I think we should continue until the forum currently being worked on:

You ask the questions - SOMEONE will have the answers!
http://www.stampboards.com/viewforum.php?f=10

is finished and unless Glen has a different view that is what I will continue doing.

There are only about 100 sizeable threads left in that forum so it would seem a shame not to finish it; these are being listed on :

List of Threads Still Requiring Repair http://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?f=65&t=81380&p=5498536#p5498536

I realise that it is now difficult to know whether an image needs to be changed or not and as vicaf60 and john6625 have said above, the only solution is to try each one :(

Chris.

Could I have:

"The strange case of the Germany 1948 Bizone Structures Issue" in
Board index » Scans of really NICE looking stamps & covers etc. Add yours! » Share with others here your NICE looking stamp and cover images etc.
https://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=68950
for editing?

Although previously repaired some of images need attention.

Many thanks

There is only ONE thread (yes, you read that correctly) left that is in needs of repair:

The Water Cooler' - A relaxing and FUN place to let off some steam ......
Funny Photographs - slightly *Broad Minded* viewers needed!
http://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=247

As it is quite a large one, do we have any volunteers to take on a page or pages ? The pages that have images in need of conversion to stampboards.com are Page 3 to Page 49 (inclusive).

Thank you, in advance, to anyone willing to assist.
