It wouldn't surprise me to see Ken Hinkley joining him short of a miracle happening this weekend and them scraping into the finals...don't think David Koch will be very accepting of them not making the finals!mj69 wrote:Truly a remarkable season draws to a close. Completely agree...... Hinkley has presided over some truly appalling displays and has been guilty of some terrible tinkering, disrupting a working ruck just one example. Even if the miracle happens Port will have to make the GF for him to save himself.gmoney wrote:It wouldn't surprise me to see Ken Hinkley joining him short of a miracle happening this weekend and them scraping into the finals...don't think David Koch will be very accepting of them not making the finals!mj69 wrote:Truly a remarkable season draws to a close. To have the same number of scoring shots as your opposition & lose by 45 points is ridiculous.
The game is called "football" for a reason & if you can't kick the ball & hit a target then I am not sure why you are playing the game.
Whoever coaches St.Kilda next year has to improve the players skill in this area. The previous blokes attitude was they should be able to kick before they come to the club & then at members function asked if there was anyone there who could teach the players to kick.

Re: 2019 AFL Football Tipping Contest - $100's in prizes - F
Kicking for goal is definitely one area that the game has not improved, in fact seems to be going backwards.
Collingwood did everything in their power to kick themselves out of the game last night, some of the shots missed were disgraceful.
From what I hear they spend too much time practicing the "miracle" around the corner dribble kicks etc. when they should be spending hour after hour practicing the basic shots at goal to make sure they become automatic!

All year I have seen talented players, from all teams, lining up for simple drop punt goals on almost no angles, and then running sideways to do the lairy round the corner kick - and miss.
No idea why Captains or coaches do not give them a blast.

Re: 2019 AFL Football Tipping Contest - $100's in prizes - F
And now for the final ladder and prize winners :
The prizes are as follows :
First Prize: A $A150.00 Gift Voucher from Glen Stephens, which can be used to purchase anything from http://www.glenstephens.com/rarity.html or that Glen has listed on the sales forum here on Stampboards - http://tinyurl.com/StampDeals
Second Prize: A $A100 e-voucher for any of the 67,000+ Nett Priced stamp items on fletches1 huge website - http://stampmall.com.au - good for members globally. A fantastic prize for collectors of ANYTHING philatelic. Discount and sale offers on there each month!
Third Prize: Kevin Morgan has again kindly donated an annual "Stamp News" subscription within Australia valued at $99.50. (An overseas winner only needs to pay the extra post cost). OR a THREE Year Digital subscription globally - https://stampnews.net.au/
I believe for the first time in Stampboards AFL Tipping history, we have a repeat winner.
First Prize : -
I am slightly embarrassed to announce the winner is some guy called gmoney with a total of 137.
Second & Third Prizes : -
On the final ladder, we had a tie for 2nd place, with both Bak012 and Bunge finishing with a total of 132.
To decide the prizes, we had to go to the tiebreakers.
They were not able to be separated on the first tiebreaker as both had gained 2 bonus points by tipping a perfect round, ironically both did it in Round 13!
That took us to the second tiebreaker, the old fashioned countback.
Neither member tipped a perfect 9 during the season (Round 13 was a bye round of only 6 games).
Both members tipped 8 winners in a round once during the season.
The decider came in the number of times they tipped 7 winners in a round.
bak012 tipped 7 winners on 6 occasions however Bunge by tipping 7 in the final round amassed 7 occasions.
Therefore I declare the final results as follows :
First Prize : gmoney
Second Prize : Bunge
Third Prize : bak012
Prize winners need to contact the prize donor to arrange acceptance of their prizes.
The final Stampboards Ladder for 2019 :

Great job John & well done on the Win.
Congrats also to Bak012 and Bunge.
I'd not be a fan of Aussie Rules but the Competition certainly stirred my interest and I totally enjoyed it. Will study a little for next year.
Many Thanks for all the effort.

Typical! I just start to make my run, and you pull the plug on the competition.gmoney wrote:Congratulations to Norm (fromdownunder) for tipping a perfect round.
But congratulations to John for winning and to Bunge and bak012 for taking out the minor placings.Fun as usual, and hope everyone (including John) comes back next year. It's kind of nice just to be a tipster.
Oh, almost forgot.

Well, I finished near the bottom, but it was fun.
Congratulations to the winners and the prize donors.
Can you believe I won some years back and it had to
have been pure luck because my system never worked
out again. Looking forward to next year.

Congratulations to John for winning the competition, and also well done to Bunge in 2nd and bak012 in 3rd.
It was a tough year to pick the winners with any consistency, but it made for a close competition.
Thanks also to John for running the competition and the sponsors Glen, Steve & Kevin for donating the prizes.

Re: 2019 AFL Football Tipping Contest - $100's in prizes - F
I can hear the howls of derision as I contemplate writing this post. I have been in Australia for almost 43 years, Never been able to deal with Vegemite or Aussie Rules-too many knock on,s/ forward passes and off sides. Yes I am a rugby union freak. But , anyway, good luck to all the sides remaining in the competition especially Collingwood, who play in my old school colours. Yes I am aware of the ABC mantra.
I prefer to collect UK, British Commonwealth esp Pacific area ( not excluding West Indies/Canada ) and Western Europe. At the bottom of my zone of interest is Eastern Europe and communist countries.

Some really tragic news has just emerged.
Former St.Kilda captain & Richmond coach has been killed in a car accident near Ballarat today.
A really great guy who will be sadly missed.

Footy personality dead after Victorian car crash
I will never forget some of the antics that he & other Ballarat based footballers would get up to on their trip down to training from Ballarat. And what he & Tony Lockett got up to after Tony won the Brownlow.

Just checking if there is anything happening about a 2020 AFL Football tipping competition. First game is Richmond V Carlton on March 19 (i.e. 2 weeks away).
