STOP PRESS.
It has just been announced that South Australia will close it's borders on Tuesday. This will require all people coming into that State to self quarantine.
As I see it, sporting teams will not be able to freely move in & out of South Australia. I feel that unless all the AFL teams are moved to Victoria, the AFL will have to put this year's season hold.
Stay tuned.

AFL have announced a press conference in the next couple of hours and the belief going around media circles is that the season will be suspended after today's matches.BigSaint wrote:STOP PRESS.It has just been announced that South Australia will close it's borders on Tuesday.

Really does make you wonder why they bothered starting the season when this was always likely to happen.

Victoria and New South Wales to push for full community lockdowns amid coronavirus pandemic
Governments are on the verge of approving dramatic lockdowns of the worst coronavirus-hit Australian communities, in a desperate attempt to slow the exponential growth of the deadly disease before tens of thousands die from it.
Victoria and New South Wales will also tonight push for a halt on non-essential activities. It would include the closure of non-essential businesses such as restaurants and pubs.
Victoria will also push for schools to be shut from Tuesday, and if it cannot reach a wider agreement with the Federal Government, will go it alone.

This competition is now "suspended" until such time that the AFL resumes, assuming that happens sometime later in the year.

Re: 2020 AFL Football Tipping Competition - 3 Valuable Prize
I have competed in every Stampboards AFL thread. I have never got the wooden spoon but have threatened to do so on a number of occasions. As for winning prizes - that has never looked even remotely possible.
So it is with a certain lack of humility that I now find myself the undisputed leader for the next 8 weeks or so.
Surely there will be prize for holding the number 1 position for the longest time for the whole decade.

Well Kevin, yes, but only for a Decade or so though. In the very first year I ran this (2008), Clino from the United States took the lead in Round 6 and was never headed after that. That would be 16 weeks in the lead.
I suspect that this is one record which will stand for all time.

Re: 2020 AFL Football Tipping Competition - 3 Valuable Prize
Just a brief update for AFL 2020.
The current plan is for the AFL to set up (probably) three hubs of six teams each at yet to be selected regional areas and play crowd free games, possibly most days, or nights, per week. And maybe rotate teams between hubs once they have all played each other once.
Limited support staff and no families will be allowed, and outside of training and the matches themselves, all current "social distancing" rules will be adhered to.
The intent is to play a 153 game season, with hopefully a Grand Final at the 'G at perhaps the end of October and perhaps with some sort of crowd.
No further details are known and no dates are set, although FOXTEL have insisted that all venues to be used must be broadcast ready.

Re: 2020 AFL Football Tipping Competition - 3 Valuable Prize
It is going to be interesting to see what eventually is decided upon.
Many players, including one I know personally, are very against the hub ideas because of being kept away from their young families for extended periods.
If the revamped fixture has matches being played almost every day, I think it will make it very difficult to continue this tipping competition for this year.
No decision will be made until fixtures etc have been made public.

John .. it is a real mess to sort out as every state has differing movement rules! No idea when it will get moving.
Whilst posting, do we have any MELBOURNE DEMONS fans about the place? I buy some strange things, and this arrived on my desk as stock 736JW. I put $A100 on it - no idea really - no SG catalogue for these!

2005 AFL Football match Guernsey (light sweat stain in armpit) signed by Neale Daniher the Coach, David Neitz the Captain, and Travis Johnstone, Melbourne Club Best and Fairest.
Signed stuff seems to be in the $500 type price point for well known stars -
