Here is my first attempt at an image. Can you please advise whether I have done this correctly or not. -thanks in anticipation. I also wanted feedback on whether this is the dropped mailbag version of the 3d blue. Thomas (6 years) and I were very excited to think that we have found our first flaw.

Cheers,

Mark

A dropped mailbag it is. Re your scan. Cropping the image and using a contrasting coloured background will help.

Even better, a scan and not a photo would be better - I don't think this is a scan?

I have been playing with this image for a while now and can not seem to get it to post any larger???

It is with imgbox. I have looked at all the setting in my account and have tried to upload larger originals, but everything still comes out this size. If I click on the image above, a new window opens that shows a larger image, but I should be able to have a larger image here, no?

Anyone have any suggestions? Am I simply missing something? I have not had issues with images on SB before, but other than the fact that this is a long block (which may hit 900mm max), I can't figure this out.

Is the original picture 900 wide? Looks about 800 to me.

You could crop each stamp and display each individually at 900 wide but that is the most the board supports. :D

Image is 800x219 - you could always scan in two pieces but you wouldn't display much larger side-by-side due to wrap-around on browsers with a narrow window. I don;t have my browser window at full screen, and I suspect many don't if the screen is wide.

Thank you both for the responses.

The image is, in fact, 800 wide - the max for imgbox.

I guess it is either scan in parts or leave it as is.

It worked! The stamp depicts a post office about 5 miles from where I live. The building is still there but is no longer a post office.

testing out images from OneDrive. (in OneDrive, select your picture and choose the "embed" option at the top to get a link, then remove the 's' from 'https' inside the tag, just like with imgur)

How cool is this stamp? Depending on the angle you see 2 different images.

mint-unhinged,

Your image is too large, you need to reduce the size of your image.

Also, your code should look something like this:

Code: Select all

http://i. imgur.com/qNJ4Kio.jpg
Not, what you have above. Which is this:

Code: Select all

http://imgur.com/qNJ4Kio
Please note the .jpg ending.

You will probably want a higher resolution image for your avatar than the one you posted above.

Hi Mark, Thank you for your feedback. Stamp and cover was originally scanned at 600dpi.
I have again scanned the cover with stamp at 600dpi The stamp image is a painting and if still poor quality, I will select something else for an avatar.
Right now I am trying to get a suitable avatar sized image.
With my previous, with the too small posted image, it was suggested 165x165. However when in "Edit Images" I type in 165 the adjacent number resets to 132.
Adittionally how do I position the image as an avatar in the LHS column,or is it a job for the administrator.
Any advice gladly received,
Roy

You should ONLY change the largest dimension down to 165 and let the software calculate the other size so as to maintain the aspect ratio of the image.

It will be distorted and unrecognizable otherwise.

Go to your “User Control Panel” from the link at the top of every page and you will find a dialog to edit and upload your avatar image.

One in the control panel... select PROFILE from the menu along the left and then.... Edit Avatar.

Post by Global Administrator »

Yes as reported here via large global Sticky that all should have seen -

https://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=90352

April 22, 2020 update. http://www.IMGUR.com have a tech issue - whatever you try to load here, gets a "It was not possible to determine the dimensions of the image" in red error type message.

Do not waste your time trying right now - very annoying, and wastes everyone's time - they once were great and reliable - like photobucket once was.

We are working hard with them now to try and sort it, and will post here if we do, but in the MEANTIME -

We suggest you use the free http://www.imgbox.com or the even better http://www.imageshack.com - simple to use - see tutorial below. I use them all the time.

https://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=90352

Since the crazy $500 a year photobucket Ransom demand of latter 2017, ruining 100,000s of older images here, we no longer want to see ANY images to be posted here using photobucket. In 2019 they started doing idiotic things like adding massive ad ''watermarks'' to YOUR photos, and/or blurring images for non paid accounts. Do NOT ever use photobucket - once our preferred image hoster.

Use only use the free http://www.imgbox.com or the even better http://www.imageshack.com IMGBOX has pop ups to very slightly racy ads appear now and again, so some prefer not to use it. (So always check the FAMILY CONTENT box as shown for your images!) But do NOT close or delete your photobucket or IMGUR accounts.

http://www.imgbox.com is totally free, and simple to use - here are the basics -
Image
Image

Image
Choose the ''800 x 800 RESIZED'' from the drop down choices. If you choose ''SQUARE'', any oblong stamp will post here SQUARE, or will show cropped off entirely at top or sides. :)
Image

Choose link in the ''BB CODE'' option as shown at right - and as always manually delete the letter "s" after ''https'' from this string you copy, as you need to do on all images under current software.
***********************************
http://www.imageshack.com is also a cinch to use -
Image
***********************************

The update to the new phpBB software here soon means images should be able to be loaded direct to each thread. In the meantime please bear with us!

DO NOT USE IMGUR.COM until they hopefully sort out their tech issue
